TEAM

  • Joshi Dobrik

In 2014, mid-way through their medical studies, Joshi left France for London in order to begin an apprenticeship under master tailor Edward Sexton. After a number of years working for various Savile Row firms, they are now the tailoring lecturer on the BA costume course at Wimbledon College of Arts, UAL. They decided to found Hors Sujet in response to some of the inequity they witnessed during their time in the garment trade.

Joshi is the pattern cutter for Hors Sujet’s bespoke commissions and is responsible for delivering the company’s internships.

  • Rowan Douglas

Rowan is a social researcher with a specialism in work with transgender individuals and other marginalised communities. He has experience in both commercial and academic research, and is currently undertaking a PhD exploring the lived experiences of transmasculine individuals constructing their gender in conversation. In addition, Rowan volunteers in the research team at the London LGBTQ+ community centre, helping to carry out qualitative and quantitative research with the LGBTQ+ community.

Rowan advises Hors Sujet on a variety of matters relating to its work.

  • Claire Emerson

In 2019, after over a decade of being in charge of the bespoke workrooms and 8 apprentices at Edward Sexton, Claire began her freelance career. She quickly gained a reputation for being one of the most dexterous Savile Row coat (jacket) makers, and now makes garments for a few of the most prestigious houses. Her atelier is located in Kent, where she lives with her partner, dog, and new-born baby.

Claire is the coat maker for Hors Sujet’s bespoke commissions.

  • Kit McGuire

At 16, Kit began their theatre career in Stratford-upon-Avon. Since then, he has appeared on stage and screen across the UK, whilst taking commissions as a freelance writer. Their work includes fiction and nonfiction, spanning prose, scripts, poetry, and essays, and has been published and produced by CBS Online, CultureClash Theatre, Queerlings magazine, and elsewhere. He's also a qualified cheesemonger.

    Kit writes for Hors Sujet.
